Are you a fan of fall?
Part summer, part fall… September is hands-down my favorite month of the year.
In this beautiful in-between, the equinox is briefly found. The day and night perfectly equal one another, and then… The turn toward fall.
We mark the autumn equinox on the calendar, and it all feels like it happens so quickly.
But subtle changes have been happening all along.
I love how the transition to fall is so similar to that of a new career season.
It starts with clues: a conversation that energizes you, something that once felt exciting is now mundane or boring, a pull to learn something new.
As you study the leaves on the trees, also try to study the nudges on your time, attention, and energy—these are all tiny clues that your career is shifting.
There’s no need to rush (autumn certainly doesn’t). Take your time. Study the path as it unfolds before you, and get curious.
Curiosity is in season.
September invites you to return to curiosity, to become a student of your life again.
It’s the month of fresh notebooks, sharpened focus, and willingness to grow. Learning doesn’t have to be formal; it can be quiet, joyful, and self-led.
This month, choose one new thing to learn each day or each week—something that is tiny, simple, and interesting.
This could be a new skill or micro-skill for work; a new recipe; a concept you’ve been curious about; a new word, tool, or technique; or something about yourself through reflection.
Then keep a dedicated “September Learn List” in your planner and jot down a short sentence for each:
+ Why it matters
+ What I learned

🎧 Listening to… Books, Beach, and Beyond Podcast.
I’ve loved listening to some of my favorite fiction authors go behind the scenes on this pod– I’ve learned so much!
📖 Cooking with… My New Roots cookbook. I picked this cookbook up on a whim in a coffee shop while visiting Niagara-on-the-Lake. The book is organized by season, and I knew immediately I needed it! I love finding new ways to work seasonal foods into our meals.
📓 Journaling in… our In Season planner. Because it marks the return of many schools, September carries that fresh-start feeling. As a student, I loved a fresh planner. September is the perfect time to return to a clean slate and some new pages.
Speaking of things worth returning too…
This month, we’re continuing our re-release of most-loved episodes with our #1 episode: Interview Prep: How to Answer “Tell Me About a Time You Made a Mistake.”
This is one of the most dreaded interview questions, but it can actually be one of the most impactful ways to leave a lasting impression. The good news: You don’t have to hide the imperfect parts of your career story; those are often where you’ve learned and grown the most.
That said, there’s an art to answering this one well…text
Curiosity is our gift as humans, and indulging it can lead to surprising new opportunities and long-desired new directions, whether that’s a podcast or a new career. This blog post is all about how to begin…
