Healthy Snacking With This Sweet + Salty Seasoning

curry popcorn on a plate sitting on a table

Air-popped and lightly seasoned popcorn can be a healthy snack to accompany the celebrations this month.

Adding my all-time favorite (+ slightly unexpected) flavor combination to fresh popcorn gives it a crave-worthy taste. I’m excited to introduce you to this sweet + salty curry-spiced popcorn seasoning.

Full disclosure, I did not invent this combination; it was developed by my fav restaurant, which offered it as a happy hour snack. When they sadly closed their doors, it forced me to give my recipe-making skills a shot. And I’m pleased to report that after multiple taste tests, I’ve finally mastered the perfect combination of this sweet + salty spice blend!

Ingredients:

1/2 cup popcorn kernels, this hull-less variety is the best
1 tsp yellow curry powder
1 tsp sugar
1/2 tsp sea salt
1 tbsp coconut oil
1.5 tbsp unsalted butter

Instructions:

  1. Mix curry powder, sugar, and sea salt in a small bowl
  2. Melt coconut oil in Whirley Pop
  3. Add the popcorn kernels
  4. Melt butter in a separate small saucepan while corn pops
  5. Scatter melted butter on the popped corn
  6. Sprinkle with seasoning + enjoy!

“Popcorn is prepared in the same pot, in the same heat, in the same oil and yet…the kernals do not POP at the same time. Don’t compare yourself to others. Your turn to POP is coming!” —Author Unknown
