Welcome to summer!
Ahhh, a time of warmth, sunshine, and long, long, sunny days. Many of us look forward to summer all year long because we get to travel, slow down, and catch up with friends.
But it’s also a season of reflection. A chance to pause as we consider our personal and professional lives.
What’s working? What isn’t? Are we on the right track? These are the kinds of questions that can only be answered through honest reflection.
In the summertime, we’re more relaxed and less stressed. We might have more time to devote to introspection, and we can take advantage of the slower pace to dig deep into our thoughts and feelings.
Here are some of my favorite resources to help you do just that…
NEW BLOOM
Monthly Podcast Segment: “Flourishing Together”
As an introvert with a microphone, adding guests into the mix has added another layer of apprehension to my podcast adventure. But after interviewing my first guest Kate, I’m convinced it will be super fun and helpful for everyone.
This month, I chatted with Cassie Spencer about her values-based portfolio career. Cassie also has a delightful podcast called “Happenstance,” which is all about how we create careers out of both the planned and the unplanned experiences in our lives.
Check her out, and while you’re there, subscribe to the Flourish Careers podcast and tune into my chat with Cassie this month.
REFRESHING WORDS
“And so with the sunshine and the great bursts of leaves growing on trees…I had that familiar conviction that life was beginning over again with the summer.”

The Creative Act: A Way of Being by Rick Rubin
I haven’t been able to put this book down. If you think you’re not a creative person, think again. This book is about the place creativity holds in everyone’s life and how we can make that place larger.
The episode “Magic, Everyday Mystery, and Getting Creative” from the On Being podcast with Krista Tippett
In this episode, Krista interviews Rick Rubin about his views on creativity as a birthright. I told you I was obsessed! (I think Rick is one of the coolest humans ever.) If you don’t read the book, please listen to this podcast; you won’t be disappointed. (It might even convince you to read the book.)
