It’s that time of year when fresh possibilities start blooming around us—crocuses, daffodils, tulips… and new career opportunities, too.
As nature shakes off the stillness of winter, so does the job market.
Today’s hiring landscape is less about volume and more about intention, rooted in purpose and long-term potential.
April often marks a turning point. Many companies have finalized Q1 results, reassessed priorities, and are cautiously—but actively—opening roles aligned with their refreshed direction. Like spring blossoms, job openings are beginning to pop up across many industries.
It’s a season of momentum and opportunity, an ideal time to explore what might bloom in your career. Here’s to nurturing those next steps with intention, curiosity, and confidence.
Speaking of new opportunities, if asking about salary when interviewing for a new role makes you nervous or requesting a raise feels awkward…you’re not alone.
People find it difficult to talk about money in general. Talking about money in a professional setting? Even more challenging.
But it doesn’t have to be that way.
If you’re a Flourish Careers client, you’ve probably heard this reminder from me: No one works for free.
And also this one—earned from years of HR experience: “Negotiations aren’t just allowed, they’re expected.”
+ DO communicate your achievements, your value, and your salary expectations.
+ DON’T bring demands or ultimatums to the table.
+ DO stick to the facts.
+ DON’T let emotion rule your responses.
+ DO approach the discussion from a place of both humility and confidence.
Season 8 of the podcast will be returning on April 23rd!
One of the highlights of this season is a conversation with Yolanda Owens. We explore salary transparency and how companies and job seekers can take a thoughtful approach to compensation discussions and pay structures. It’s a simple shift that can lead to more clarity, equity, and meaningful work.
Early in my career, I plowed forward, my eyes firmly set on the carrot of the next shiny role or promotion before me, never stopping to consider if this was what I wanted. But everything changed once I learned to slow down enough to work with intention.
Pursuing a heart-based career can seem impossible when you first begin. It becomes ten times easier when you learn to choose intention over speed and excellence over volume.
I had to let go of a lot to bring Flourish Careers to life. I let go of the security of a steady paycheck. I let go of titles and expectations that no longer fit, and, most importantly, I let go of who I thought I should be to make space for who I was becoming.
I’m honored to have contributed to this wisdom-filled anthology of moving stories from bold women. The women featured have all navigated the chaos and beauty of release with bravery + grace. Read to discover how you, too, can break free from expectations, redefine your identity, and open yourself up to new possibilities. The e-book is launching this month!
Remember, growth isn’t always loud or immediate. Sometimes, it’s in the quiet, steady effort that real progress takes root.
